Interview With Romance Author Nicole Hurley-Moore

Joining me today is romance author Nicole Hurley-Moore.  Check out my interview with her, and then read on to learn more about her books.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I think the vague idea that I wanted to write formed when I was a teenager. But it took me years to actually get around to doing it.

How long does it take you to write a book?
If all goes well and I don’t get too distracted, it takes about three months.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Anything can spark an idea and it’s usually when you least expect it – walking in the park, reading a history book or worse whilst you’re in the shower and there isn’t a pen handy. One story was inspired by an interesting ring, another by childhood memories of an old theatre and one by an article on arranged medieval marriages. I’ve learnt to always carry a note pad… well, maybe not in the shower.

When did you write your first book?
I wrote my first book about five years ago but I doubt it will ever see the light of day. Well, not without a total rewrite anyway.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I’ve written three novellas and three novels. I can’t pick a favourite, it’s too hard.

What do you think makes a good story?
Engaging characters, an interesting plot and something a bit different.

What are your favorite book genres in writing and reading? Why?
I love romance – always have, always will. I’m a hopeless romantic and a sucker for a happily ever after. My favourite sub genres would be historical and paranormal. I blame Jane Austen, Baroness Orczy and Anya Seaton for my love of historical romance. At the age of fourteen I discovered Pride & Prejudice, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Katherine… there was no coming back from that. As a child I was always drawn to fairytales, myths and legends and I think the paranormal genre is just an extension of that. I love dark, twisty stories with a touch of magic.

Who are you favorite authors to read?
There are so many… too many to list.

Is There anything else you would like to share with the readers today?

November has been a really busy month. I’ve had two releases – Dancing on Air, a Victorian era romance and Rain, my medieval fairytale.

Cinderella meets Swan Lake in a cross-class, Victorian novel about a ballerina, an aristocrat, and the space in between them.
Lisette yearns for freedom, security and love, but none are offered on the run-down stage of The Imperial Theatre. Lord Evander Gainswith never expected to fall in love, let alone with a woman so wholly unacceptable to his family and his peers.
Lisette may dance roles in fairy tales and fantasies, but the real world is about to intrude, bringing with it the harsh realities of life for a young girl with dreams of rising above the demimonde.

1216 AD
Nuri is caught between heaven and hell. Two men fight for her love and her soul. The first is Maras, an elemental being who follows the storms. The second is Brother Erebus, a pious monk whose tortured soul is twisted by his desire for her. But Nuri may sacrifice more than her heart when the Church brands her angel a demon. As Brother Erebus will do anything to protect her soul from the silver haired devil, even if he has to crush her body to do it.
