Turkish Delights An Anthology by Liz Crowe

Today I am excited to have Best Selling Author Liz Crowe with me. So sit back, read a little about her newest book and then check out her interview.

A young American woman comes face to face with her destiny in Istanbul in the 1960's and an epic dynasty is born.

When Vivian Kinkaid turns around in her college classroom and makes eye contact with a man who was once her forbidden childhood friend, her life is changed forever.

A sweeping saga of family, love, loss and recovery—The Turkish Delight series begins with a special sort of magic. Then  Madame Eve works her miracles for the Deniz family, but even she can’t overcome the harsh realities that force this Turkish/American family all to deal with tragedy when one of their own is ripped from their close-knit circle.

“The Turks” opens with best-selling classic romance for the ages.  Then ends with a thrilling novella that brings all the players back together.  Set in Istanbul, Las Vegas, and Southern California, The Turkish Delights series has it all—heat, heart, intrigue and a deep, family connection that transcends all barriers.

 The Anthology includes:

The Diplomat's Daughter
Turkish Delights
Blue Cruise
Tulip Princess
Flower Passage
Rather Have It Has An Ebook?

Okay, now onto the interview!

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
About 3 years ago actually, when I expanded my reading horizons past my usual mainstream fiction and picked up my first erotic romance (Shayla Black who remains one of my favorites)

How long does it take you to write a book?
I’m a “marathoner” which is to say I get hold of an idea, knock it around in my head a while, then just sit down and write it until it is done. This to the detriment of my house, my dogs and my kids. But they know the drill by now! For example, I wrote Flower Passage, the final novella of the Turkish Delights series (around 35,000 words) in a weekend. I’m not necessarily advocating this method but I’ve tried to go slower and it doesn’t work. Now, I spend a ton of time AFTER the book is written working with my editing team of course.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
See above: Marathon Writing.

What do you think is the best way of publishing a book these days?
Whatever works best for you. Rejection stings and can be stifling for many so self-pubbing is the only way for them. However, the issue with it in my honest opinion is that much of it goes un-edited or badly edited and can give a bad rap to certain genres as a result.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
I just dream them up, honestly.

When did you write your first book?
In 2010, Floor Time, which turned into my best selling, Stewart Realty series, actually.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Catch up on all the sh*t I didn’t do while I WAS writing! Seriously, I own a brewery and manage the beer bar so I have plenty to keep me busy.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I’m going with which one of this series is my favorite and I’m torn between Tulip Princess (the sister’s story which is cross-cultural with a BDSM theme) and The Diplomat’s Daughter which is as close as I have ever come to “sweet” and/or “historical.”

I have had over 20 books published in the last 2.5 years.

Can you tell me and your readers something about your main characters?
The Deniz family is the feature of this series. It begins when Vivian Kincaid, daughter of the Consulate General to Istanbul falls in innocent love with the son of the consulate employees. She and Levent Deniz are forced apart for years but come back together in a beautiful way. Their children are the twins: Tarkan and Emre, and a daughter, Lale (pronounced “Lah-ley”). Each one of them has their story, along with another man, Caleb, who is Tarkan’s lover. When everyone believes Tarkan is killed in a terrorist attack it takes a couple of years to recover…then, a real surprise event occurs, throwing everyone’s lives into turmoil again.

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
I have a great interaction with many of my readers in a private fan group on Facebook (link below) and via emails and in person. They love my style but have no problem telling me if one of my characters pisses them off (which they tend to do…a lot)

Thanks so much for joining me today.  It was great having you.

Now readers here is a little more about Liz Crow that you may not know.

Microbrewery owner, best-selling author, beer blogger and journalist, mom of three teenagers, and soccer fan, Liz lives in the great Midwest, in a major college town.  Years of experience in sales and fund raising, plus an eight-year stint as an ex-pat trailing spouse, plus making her way in a world of men (i.e. the beer industry), has prepped her for life as erotic romance author.

When she isn't sweating inventory and sales figures for the brewery, she can be found writing, editing or sweating promotional efforts for her latest publications.

Her groundbreaking fiction subgenre, “Romance for Real Life,” has gained thousands of fans and followers who are interested less in the “HEA” and more in the “WHA” (“What Happens After?”)

Her beer blog a2beerwench.com is nationally recognized for its insider yet outsider views on the craft beer industry. Her books are set in the not-so-common worlds of breweries, on the soccer pitch and in high-powered real estate offices.  Don’t ask her for anything “like” a Budweiser or risk painful injury.

Be sure to visit the final stop in Liz's blog tour at : www.decadentpublishing.blogspot.com  At that stop there is a contest that consists of 5 questions plus a bonus round. All answers can be found in various posts throughout the tour.

The commenter who gets the most answers correct AND leaves an email in their comment wins:
1 signed print copy of Turkish Delights, $50 Amazon gift card and if they get the BONUS question too: a Beer Wench tee shirt from Liz' brewery.

Time To Name That Book

Many of you know that I am in the editing and revising stage of book 3 in The Sherbrookes of Newport Series.  Book 3 is Sara Sherbrooke's story.  Readers all first saw Sara in book 1 The Teacher's Billionaire and again briefly in book 2 The Billionaire Playboy.  As of yet Book 3 does not have a title.  I have already asked for readers help in narrowing down some options.  Now I need your help in selecting the ONE.  So here is what I need you to do and you'll be entered into my latest contest.

Leave a comment telling me which title you prefer.  Then click on the rafflecopter button to be entered into the contest.  I know the extra step is a bit of a pain, but honestly, I hate trying to pick a winner at the end.  I always want to pick everyone, which is not possible. The contest will end at midnight on February 27.

Okay so here are the 3 options:

The Billionaire Princess
Healing The Billionaire Princess
Healing The Heiress

I know which is my favorite!  And just in case you missed it last week, I included a short excerpt from the current work in progress at the very end.

Below I have included a very short excerpt from my Work In Progress. Please note that it has not seen an editor yet so I may have missed an error or two.

Outside the window, the runway rapidly approached as the family jet touched down. No matter how many times Sara Sherbrooke traveled by plane it never ceased to amaze her how something so large could take off and land with such ease. As the plane rolled to a stop, she checked her smart phone for any text messages before tossing it into her Coach bag and then waited for the plan door to open.

“Do you require any assistance, Ms. Sherbrooke?” Michelle, the private flight attendant for the jet, asked.

Sara moved towards the exit. “I'm fine, Michelle. I'll let you and Peter know when I'm ready to leave. When you are both done here go ahead and check into your hotel and enjoy yourselves.”

Without waiting for an answer Sara walked down the stairs and out into the warm Hawaiian sun. As always it was a gorgeous day. It didn't seem like Hawaii ever had any other kind. At least every time she'd been there the weather was perfect and today seemed to be no different.

A few feet away Sara spotted the limo her brother Jake arranged to pick her up and started towards it, her curiosity running rampant. It had been since yesterday when she’d received Jake's call insisting she come to Hawaii immediately with no explanation. She'd told him that she had responsibilities and couldn't just up and leave without a good reason. All he said in response was to reschedule her meetings and then promised to have someone waiting for her at the airport.

“Once your seated, I'll put your luggage in the trunk; we can leave once Mr. Hall arrives,” the driver said opening the door for Sara.

At the mention of Jake's best friend and former college roommate, Sara's curiosity went into over drive. Just what was her brother up to anyway?

My writer friend, Katherine Lowry Logan, recently tagged me for a ‘chain’ blog entitled ‘The Next Big Thing'. Here’s the deal: I answer a few questions about my current work-in-progress, then I invite other authors to do the same. A bit like a chain letter, except it is only focused on an author’s work-in-progress. Katherine was tagged previously by  Clive Eaton. I've included details of their blogs so you can explore their answers to the same questions. So here goes:

Now onto some information about my next release, Book 3 in The Sherbrookes of Newport Series.

What is the title of your next book?

My next release will be Book 3 in my series titled The Sherbrookes of Newport. As of yet I do not have a set title for this book. With the 2ndbook in the series I asked for readers to help me settle on a title, and I am doing that again.  Readers can visit my current survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8V7MZN9

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I first introduced Sara Sherbrooke to readers in book 1, The Teacher's Billionaire which is currently free for all ereaders. After I finished that book, I realized that I wanted to know more about her. Why did she act the way she did. Had someone hurt her in the past? The hero in my next book Christopher Hall was introduced to readers in book 2 The Billionaire Playboy. Almost as soon as I wrote him, I knew that he was the man for Sara and hence a new idea was born.

What genre does your book fall under?

My book is a contemporary romance.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

If a movie was ever made of Book 3,Sara Sherbrooke would be played by Rosamund Pike and Christopher Hall would be played by Bradley Cooper.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Burned by love before Sara Sherbrooke must learn to overcome her fears and open her heart again.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

This book like the first two in the series will be self-published. I started the first draft of the story in September of 2012 and then at the beginning of October I decided I did not like where it was going so I started over. As of today I am a few chapters short of finishing the first draft.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I can not think of one specific book, but I would compare it to some of the other contemporary romance series out there.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

I can not say that one thing inspired me to write this book, however, the gorgeous mansions in Newport Rhode Island provided me with inspiration for this series. I grew up in Rhode Island and actually got married inside one of these mansions. I have always adored them. They are simply breathtaking.

What else about your book might pique the reader interest?

In this book readers get to visit with Dylan, Callie, Jake, and Charlotte again, however even if one does not read the first two books the third should still make sense to them. But for those that did read books 1 and 2, they will be able to see how Callie and Sara's relationship finally ends up.

Free For Valentine's Day Only A Sensual Romance by Elaine Raco Chase

PROVOCATIVE, CHICK-LIT, LOVE TRIANGLE, ROMANTIC COMEDY & EXPLICIT SEX....there's even a kitchen sink!!!

Take a trip back to 1983. There was no TSA and people smoked on airplanes. (The airplane scene actually happened to me and the nun!)

This was New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina – a place I fell in love with and visited a half-dozen times. Alas, some of the restaurants I knew are no longer in business and menu prices certainly have changed.

Fashion – is still fashion! The styles come and go, but somehow are reborn again and again.

While it was a sensuous romance when it was first published, it was fun to amp things up!

Meet Amanda Wyatt – she had an eight year plan and accomplished so much more. Attractive, talented, she was a success whether she was designing high fashion or running her own elegant shop in New Orleans. And she had a friend with benefits relationship with –

Lucas Crosse, her lawyer and the brother she never had for twelve years. He knew her intimately - well almost. Now, he's decided he wants that, too. And he's ready to fight for Amanda with –

Wade Lloyd. He entered Amanda's life by accident. Now he wants to be a permanent fixture. But can he handle her success? Can he handle Amanda? Can he handle her friendship with Lucas Crosse?

As for Amanda – she has choices to make. A new, exciting love? Or a best friend whose benefits she's begun to dream about.

A Historical With Just The Right Touch of Magic

Title: Bright Scoundrel
Author: Lily Silver
Type: Historical Romance with touch of magic
Copyright: January 2013
Rating: 5 Stars

My Thoughts:

Bright Scoundrel is the fourth book I have read by author Lily Silver and one of my favorites so far. It is the story of Kieran O’Flaherty. Kieran spent much of his life living in the West Indies after being sold into servitude by his stepfather. Prior to the actual start of this book, he travels to England and his maternal grandfather. However, after his name appears in London papers attached to yet another scandal, he decides to flee London society and his grandfather and return to his ancestral home in Ireland. It is there that he meets Rose De Lacy, an independent young woman who has been working as the castle's steward.

Kieran's return is not an easy one. An evil menacing spirit haunts the castle, and Kieran's people are reluctant to accept him. Undeterred, Kieran whom is adept in the magical arts, sets out the win the love and respect of his people and to cleanse his home. In the process he falls in love with the headstrong Rose.

Lily Silver did a splendid job of blending together history and magic. At no time did I feel as if one aspect of the story was overtaking the other. She created well-developed characters who I came to care about and I wanted to see them both get their happily ever after. While the characters did have intimate relations, the scenes were tasteful and well-done. At no time did I fee uncomfortable reading them as occasionally happens to me in romance novels. All and all I think this was an excellent read and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a historical romance with a touch of magic.

Heartbreaker Blog Hop and Giveaway

Okay, my friends for this hop we are discussing heartbreakers.  Of course I mean those we find in our favorite romance novels not those in real life because that's just more fun.

So first what is a romance novel heartbreaker?  I think they are the bad boy heroes who come riding in on their motorcycles.  Those playboys that go from woman to woman without making any commitments.  Those rebels who live by their own code and don't care what others think.  The confirmed bachelors who think love is a four letter word for joke.

Whatever your favorite flavor of heartbreaker, they all have one thing in common: it just takes the love of the right woman to change their ways and settle into a committed relationship.

I'll admit I love to read about the bad boy or confirmed bachelor who finally succumbs to love when the right woman enters his life.  That's why I write about them.  Both books in my current series The Sherbrookes of Newport feature what you may consider heartbreakers.

What about you? Do you love heartbreakers?  Do you have a favorite type?

The excerpt below is from The Teacher's Billionaire, the first book in my series and it is free for all ereaders.

“I won't keep you. I just wanted to say hello, and tell you I should be up on Saturday. There's no way I can get out of the city before then.”
“You can stay here if you want,” Callie said before she even had a chance to really think about it.
As soon as the words passed through her lips she wanted to snatch them back. Was she coming off as too clingy? Was she pushing things too far too fast? Callie felt so out of her element with this man who kept inching his way into her heart.
More like bulldozing.
“If you don't want to...” she added wishing she could turn the clock back a few seconds.
“There's no place I'd rather stay especially if it means more of your apple cinnamon pancakes for breakfast. Preferably served to me in bed by you completely naked, but I'm flexible.”
Callie blushed at the mental image his words evoked. “Don't count on it. I have a rule about not eating in bed, so unless you're on your death bed, it's not happening.”
His sexy laugh came over the line. “Like I said, I'm flexible. If you want to serve them to me in the kitchen while you're naked that's fine too.”
The man was impossible she thought rolling her eyes. “I still wouldn't count on it.”
“Sounds like a challenge to me. One I look forward to undertaking.”

Book 2 in the series The Billionaire Playboy is also available for all ereaders.

Special Guest Author B.J. Scott and Giveaway

Joining us today to answer my questions and tell us more about her newest release, Highland Quest,  is author B.J. Scott.

How long does it take you to write a book?

I am not a speed writer and it usually takes me close to a year to write and edit a book. It of course depends on how the muse is talking and how busy real life gets.

What do you think is the best way of publishing a book these days?

While it appears to be easier to get picked up by an e-book publisher and even the larger publishers are doing more e-books, I still dream about being picked up by one of the major publishers in New York. I don’t think print books will ever become obsolete and would love to see the industry shift back to the traditional forms of publishing.

When did you write your first book?

In 2001, but never sent it in for publication. Highland Legacy was my first book I sent in for consideration and it was published in Nov 2011

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I enjoy reading, a variety of hand crafts, camping, antiquing and going for walks on the beach. We live in a small town on Lake Erie.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite? I have written five, published two and am working on the third book in my series now. I like Highland Quest better than Highland Legacy but think Highland Homecoming, the one I am working on now, will be my favorite of the three.

Can you tell me and your readers something about your main characters?

Bryce Fraser is the youngest of three brothers. He is by far the ladies’ man of the group but has no desire to take a wife. His first brush with love, when he was a lad ended in disaster and he vowed never to risk his heart again. Strong, handsome and every bit an alpha male hero, he is fearless in his quest to find his destiny and to rid Scotland of the English who occupy his homeland. He is driven by passion and the desire to avenge the deaths of his parents, two brothers, and many friends lost in battles. He finds the heroine Fallon beguiling when he meets her in the first book Highland Legacy and his ability to resist temptation and to stray from his chose path is tested on many occasions during Highland Quest. He is uncertain of his future, if he will survive the next battle and carries a secret that makes if difficult for him to let down his guard.

Fallon MacCrery is a beautiful, mysterious woman who we first meet in Highland Legacy. She is the clan healer and takes care of the heroine in the first book. There is an immediate spark between her and Bryce the minute they meet, and she believes he is different from any of the other men she has met, but she has lost everyone she has held dear and believes her love is a curse. Fallon is also gifted with second sight, something that Highlanders believed strongly in and often feared. Because of that she was shunned by many of the villagers and lived most of her life alone. She sees Bryce’s death in a vision on more than one occasion, but her attempts to warn him falls on deaf ears. Fallon is strong, independent and spirited, unlike most women of the day. She was raised to stand her ground and refused to comply with or to cower to any man. We see her as resourceful and a woman of conviction throughout the book, but she is also compassionate and self-sacrificing, even in the face of dire odd.

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

I love hearing from my readers and for the most part, they have wonderful things to say about my books. Many have asked for more and that is the main reason Highland Quest was done before other books I was working on. You will always get the occasional person who did not care for you book and that is to be expected. Sadly they seem to have the most to say, but it goes with the territory and I feel you can learn as much from them and maybe more than those who tell you they loved the book.

What are your favorite book genres in writing and reading? Why?

I am a history buff and my first pick is usually historical romances, set in medieval Scotland. Many of my book outlines take place during this time period. I also enjoy books about the American Civil war and Native American history. I have outlined books using these topics as well. I also enjoy time travel, paranormal and romantic suspense.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.  And now readers for a little more about Highland Quest and an Excerpt.

No longer content in the shadows of his older brothers and on a quest to find his destiny, Bryce Fraser's chosen path is fraught with danger, passion, and decisions. Can his unspoken love for spirited, beguiling Fallon be triumphant in a time of war and uncertainty, or will they both fall prey to the devious plans of a traitorous laird from a rival clan?

Excerpt
Loch Ryan Scotland, 1307

“Wa . . . water,” Bryce mumbled, but there was no one there to listen.

His throat was parched and he ran his tongue over dry, cracked lips, but his action offered no relief. An entire loch lay only a few feet away, but he couldn’t muster the strength to drag himself to the bank and quench his thirst.

“Cold . . . so cold.”

Despite the sun beating down on him, he’d swear he was encased in ice. His life’s blood seeped from his wounds, soaking the ground beneath him. He tried to raise his head, but the excruciating pain radiating across his chest stole his breath away.

Was this what it felt like to die? If so, he prayed the Almighty would be merciful and take him now.

Bryce moaned, a shift in his position bringing on another nauseating wave of agony. He sucked in a short, sharp, gulp of air and stretched his arm out as far as he could, his fingers grappling in the dirt.

If only I could reach my sword.

Beads of perspiration dampened his brow. As the strength slowly drained from his body, drawing a simple breath became more difficult. The end grew near. No time to make amends for sins of the past, and he had committed his share.

Regrets? He had those, too. “Fallon.” He whispered her name then heaved a ragged sigh.
