Holiday Gifts of Love Blog Hop

Happy Holidays to everyone and thanks for stopping by.  For many this time of year is crazy as we run around looking for the perfect gifts for our family and loved ones so why not take a minute to catch your breath.

Family and traditions are a big part of the holidays for many.  I know growing up my family always had 2 traditions that we followed every year.  The first was on Christmas Eve we always had a dinner consisting of 7 fishes.  The second was that my sister and I also got to new PJs on Christmas Eve.

In my husband's family the Christmas traditions always consisted of his grandparents spending Christmas Eve at his house so they were there in the morning to see him and his sister open presents from Santa and getting a new ornament for the tree each year.

Today my husband and I have our own children and we are passing on our own family traditions to them.  Every year our 3 daughters (ages 5 and 3, yes my youngest are twins) get a new holiday ornament, a pair of PJs on Christmas Eve and not only do my daughters' Nana and Grandfather spend the night at my house on Christmas Eve but so do their Great-Grandparents, Aunt and Uncle, and their 2 cousins (ages 6 and 4).  Yes, it gets a little crowded but it's a lot of fun and the whole family is together.  Everyone comes over around 3 o'clock, we have a buffet style dinner, open presents etc and then on Christmas morning Santa leaves presents for all the children.

Now that I have told you a little about my traditions, I would love to hear about yours.  Please leave me a comment telling me about the traditions you have for your holidays.  Please leave a email address to be entered into the giveaways.  And what are the prizes?

  6. We have several traditions as well. We go to the my husband's families house on Christmas Eve, celebrate Christmas morning with our 6 year old daughter at our home, and then go to my mom's house for dinner. A few weeks before Christmas we (both Moms, my sister, my daughter, and I) usually gather to make Christmas cookies and candy. We have lots of shopping adventures and just enjoy spending time together.

  8. We turn the TV off, turn on Christmas music and open some gifts on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas morning, we open the rest of the gifts and stockings. The stockings were huge. We had to downsize this year. Filling the stockings was getting expen$ive.

Thank you for the chance to win some goodies. Merry Christmas.

  11. First and foremost- spending time with my family! My family marks it down because it's the only meal I cook during the year. I guess you could call that a tradition.

  14. Our family traditions vary by year. We're a family full of unorganized people, mainly me. lol. I can say though that after several years, I've pretty much got it all down to an every-other-year thing. We usually start out by decorating our home the weekend after Thanksgiving. This includes trimming the tree and all. The following weekend we sit down as an entire family and try to decide on which chairity or organization to help for the season. After our choice is made, we get to work on following up with that cause and pitch in where we're needed. It's so much fun to do and it teaches my children one of the most important lessons in life: Giving is recieving!

Thank you for this great opportunity!

  16. The year I got married, 1987, my father started a tradition of getting me a new Wendall August Forge ornament every year for our tree. He passed away three years ago & we just didn't feel right keeping the tradition going without my dad.

  22. Our extended family gets together on Christmas Eve, or sometimes before depending on work schedules and we have dinner, open presents from drawing names(adults) the kids get their gifts from aunties and uncles. then we just hang out watch Christmas movies, read, or play bingo. Then Christmas day its just the immediate family. We get up (not so early now that my son is a teen LOL). Open presents, have dinner and just relax for the rest of the day.

  23. We have the same jammie one you do,,it just feels special having new ones on a special night.I love the ornament one. WWhen we were little all of us kids did the manger scene with our dogs being the cattle and sheep..it was such fun.One other thing we do is the kids get their stockings as soon as they get up but no presents until everyone is awake and has their hot chocolate. Then we open presents one by one, that way it stretches the fun..plus, we all get to see what each person got and the expression on their faces.

  33. One of my favorite Christmas Romance Books is The Untamable Rogue by Annette Blair! The story is about Ashford Blackburne Fifth Earl and he has to get married and get his willing bride pregnant before Christmas or his grandfather won’t let him inherit his money. Ash truly needs to inherit the money because his late father squandered it all away and he is taking care of his mother. After getting stood up at the alter, again, Ash and his friends go to the local pub where the owner plays a drunken Ash in a card game…his consolation prize is the pubs daughter Larkin, who he wants to get ride of. Ash has to learn to forgive…Larkin has to learn how to trust…can two completely different people find love together. This is a cute, extremely funny, romantic story with a surprise Christmas ending!

  37. I guess I am not that creative. The only tradition I ever had with my daughter was setting out cookies and milk. We had a very small family so I guess I never inherited any. My boyfriend and I do watch National Lampoon every Thanksgiving night now.

  40. Our tradition always had us getting up and seeing what Santa brought (our big gift) then we headed to the airport to pick up my grandparents who always flew in on Christmas morning since grandpa was a preacher and worked Christmas Eve. Then we had to wait for the adults to have their coffee and sweet rolls before we finally opened our presents. :) I learned patience young.

We also do a yearly family one this year i got a jeep with 4 heads sticking out with our names on it. Hubby's jeep blewup pretty much and he had to get new car and it wasn't a jeep... 46. My family did the Christmas PJs as well--it was always the only present I was allowed to open on Christmas Eve! It's a fun tradition and one I've continued. One of my family's traditions is a holiday cookie baking and decorating party--a whole day of family and food. It's always a lot of fun, even when baking disasters occasionally occur.
