#TeaserTuesday

Here is an UNEDITED snippet from my current WIP which will be available in 2015.

“She probably went with some friends to the bounce house. She loves those,” Bethany answered.
If his ex-wife spent more time with Grace and paid attention, she’d know Grace wouldn’t do that. “I told her not to go anywhere else.”
“Maybe she needed the bathroom and couldn’t wait to check in. I’ll go check.” Jessie headed for the temporary bathrooms set up behind the bandstand.
“I’m going to check the bounce houses. Stay here in case she comes back.” He couldn’t recall a single time Grace had disobeyed him on something like this but she was a kid surrounded by her friends. Kids followed their peers all the time.
When a search of both bounce houses and the craft table nearby turned up nothing he started back for their blanket hoping that Jessie had found her or she’d wandered back over. The sight of just Jessie and Bethany standing together froze the blood in his veins. His eyes continued to sweep the area as he walked and he reminded himself that this was North Salem not some huge city.
“I checked the bathrooms and asked some parents I passed by.” Jessie’s voice echoed his own worry.
“She has to be here. This town is like Hicksville. Everyone is either related to each other or knows everyone else. Nobody would take her.”
While Bethany maybe close to the truth he knew strangers did pass through town all the time and it only took one messed up person to snatch a little girl. Hard cold fear knotted inside his chest. As someone in law enforcement he’d seen time and time again both with the Boston Police and now with the FBI what could happen to a little girl like Grace.
He continued sweeping the area as she waited for his father, the police chief, to answer his phone. He may be jumping the gun. She may be playing with friends somewhere but he wasn’t taking any chances.

#TeaserTuesday It is that time again

#TeaserTuesday Here is a tiny Unedited snippet from Redeeming The Billionaire coming soon.

“If I’d known you cooked like this, I would have started coming here every night for dinner weeks ago.”

“You can stop by for dinner whenever you want but most nights I don’t cook much more than left over soup and grilled cheese sandwich.” She raised her own zeppole to her mouth and took a bite, some of the custard from inside lingering on her lips.

Before she wiped it away with a napkin, he leaned toward her and licked it away with his tongue. “Mmm, tastes almost as good as you,” he said intent on kissing her, but instead Addie laughed stopping him dead in his tracks. “What’s so funny?”

“You. You probably say that to all the women you kiss.”

Only on one other occasion had she mentioned his past, which he appreciated. This time, however, he wanted her to know she wasn’t like the women he’d dated in the past. “Whatever I said to other women in the past doesn’t matter. Only you matter.” Now seemed like the perfect opportunity to give her the key. “I want you to have something.” He dug into the pocket of the jacket he’d tossed across his chair and pulled out the key. “You already have the elevator code, but I want you to have a key, too. That way you can come and go whenever you want, even if I’m not home.”

Addie accepted the key studying it as if it was a foreign object. “I’m not sure if I’ll stop by if you’re not there, but thank you.” She stuck the key in her jeans pocket. “I have an extra key in my desk that you can have.”

The Good and Bad About Writing A Series

I love to read books that are part of a series. In fact some of my favorite books are those that are part of a series.  A series lets you not only fall in love with the characters in one book, but to see what happens to them well after their book ends. At the same time you get to know secondary characters before they go on to get their own stories.

Since these are my favorite stories to read, it made perfect sense to me that I should write a series or two of my own. At the time it sounded simple enough, create a family or two and tell each individuals' story.  How hard could that be?  Harder than I imagined.

When I started book 1 The Teacher's Billionaire in my series I made the mistake of not keeping excellent notes. With each book after that I tried to keep better notes relating to age, and what not but my note taking skills still weren't where they should be.  Now, as I complete Redeeming The Billionaire, fifth book in one series, and prepare to begin the second in my other series, I have decided it is time to get series about keeping track of important details about each character I include in a story regardless of how important they may or may not be.

In an effort to tackle my problem, I first created a Sherbrooke Family tree for my series The Sherbrookes of Newport and placed it over my desk.  It contains three generations of Sherbrookes.  Will everyone on that tree become a character in a book? I don't know but at least I know how each character is related.  Next, I created a chart listing the main characters in each book, their ages at the time of the book and how many years have passed in their book world. Over the next week or so I hope to make an actual map for North Salem, the fictitious  town where my second series Love On The North Shore takes place.  I am hoping that these steps will help make my writing process easier.  I would love to know how other successful series writers keep all their facts straight.

#TeaserTuesday A snippet from Redeeming The Billionaire

Teaser Tuesday is here again. So here  is an UNEDITED snippet of my current WIP Redeeming The Billionaire, book 5 in The Sherbrookes of Newport Series which is currently with my critique partner.
“We all have things that bother us.” He lowered his head toward hers, set on satisfying his need to kiss her while at the same time distracting her from the storm outside.
“Even you?” she asked her voice softer now.
He stopped mere inches from her mouth. “Even me,” he whispered before his lips descended on hers. Against his, her lips were warm and sweet and at first he kept his kisses gentle allowing himself to savor every moment. The longer they kissed the greater the fire inside him burned. When Addie pressed her breasts against him and parted her lips, he couldn’t stop himself from thrusting his tongue inside to meet hers.
Outside another boom of thunder crashed echoing the thudding of his heart. Pulling his mouth away from Addie’s he trailed his lips down her neck and then back up to her ear lob. With his tongue he traced the outline of her ear causing Addie to sigh. With slow movements, he retraced his steps pausing once again at her lips and kissing her before working his way to her other ear. As he sucked on her ear lob, warm skin came in contact with his as Addie’s hands slid under his T-shirt and up his back. At first her movements remained tentative, but when he once again pressed his mouth against hers, they became  more confident. Like a wildfire devouring dry brush, desire overtook him and Trent reached for the buttons on her top.
Without breaking their kiss, he undid each tiny button eager as a little boy on Christmas morning to remove the barrier between them. When he got the last button undone, he pushed the top from her shoulders, tossed it on the floor and then pulled back. For a moment he stared in silence, his eyes taking in the site before him. “Beautiful,” he said as he reached out and slid her bra straps down her shoulders. When she opened her mouth as if to comment, he covered it with his again. Then he reached around her back and undid the hooks of her bra.

#TeaserTuesday Time

It's that time of the week again.  Here is an UNEDITED snippet from my current WIP Redeeming The Billionaire, book 5 in The Sherbrookes of Newport Series.

Finally. Since he’d picked her up he’d wanted to taste her. Back in her kitchen he’d contemplated kissing her, but had held back determined not to rush anything. Only by using all his self restraint had he managed to hold back then.
Changing the angle of his head, he rubbed his tongue against hers and an intense urge to walk her up to his bedroom, remove her dress, and just look at her filled his head. Granted he’d desired plenty of women before, yet somehow this time it was different, more intense and overwhelming. And while his body urged him to just do it, his rational self said otherwise. Before tonight he’d never clearly suggested he wanted anything other than a professional relationship with her. If he pushed things to fast it might scare her. And while he’d been known to sleep with a woman he’d known less time than he’d know Addie, he pegged her for the type who didn’t have sex on a first date.
Rain it in. There’s no need to rush things. After one more pass over her lips, Trent dug into his self-restraint and pulled his mouth away from Addie. At first she remained still her eyes closed, her lips moist and rosy from their kiss. In the seconds before she opened her eyes, his body told him to once again take possession of her mouth. To kiss her until she wanted him as much as his body wanted her. Reminding himself she was different then the usual women he dated, Trent took a step back and hoped space would get the message from his brain to his body.
As if waking from sleep Addie’s eyes fluttered open and met his gaze and he knew the moment she processed their kiss. A hint of color, almost impossible to see unless you’d been watching, crept into her face and she glanced away before meeting his eyes again.
“If I’m going to be spending time here, maybe you should give me a tour.”
Her words sent a ripple of unexpected happiness through him that had nothing to do with Marty’s plan involving Addie. Rather his happiness had everything to do with his desire to spend time with Addie and get to know her better. Something he’d want even if Marty didn’t believe she was the key to salvaging his reputation.

On Sale For A Limited Time

When Hollywood sweetheart, Mia Troy, checks into the Victorian Rose, the only things on her mind are rest and relaxation before she begins work on her new movie in Boston. That is until she meets Sean O’Brien. From the moment she checks in, Mia is drawn to Sean, a reserved man who sees past her celebrity status.

The co-owner of a successful bed and breakfast, Sean has accepted his position in life—until the day Mia Troy checks in.

Despite his better judgment, Sean can’t ignore his physical attraction to Mia. Soon he gives into his desire, telling himself all she wants is a quick fling to pass the time.  As they spend time together, his feelings grow. But can love between two people from such different worlds ever last?

Excerpt

Sean climbed off his motorcycle and secured his helmet. It’d been a last minute decision to take his bike into the city rather than his truck. He didn’t get many opportunities to ride and the weather today was ideal—sunny and warm but not sticky and humid. Besides, he’d promised Mia a ride, and who knew how many more opportunities they would have? Already almost a week of filming had passed. His chest tightened at the thought of her leaving.
You’ve got bigger problems this weekend than Mia leaving. Anger flared at both himself and his father. Meeting with him was the only way to keep him away from the bed and breakfast, but he wished he’d never agreed to see him. After all this time he had nothing nice to say, and regardless, he’d never forgive the guy. In his opinion tomorrow afternoon was one giant waste of time.
Deep in thought, he walked the few short blocks from the garage at Mia’s hotel to The Kettle, a coffee shop at Quincy Market, where filming was taking place that day. An entire area near the coffee shop had been closed off, but that didn’t stop people from hanging around on the outside of the barricades. Earlier in the week she’d sent him a pass to get through security and promised to find him when she finished up. Breaking free from the gathered crowd, he reached the barricade and the stonefaced security guard stationed on the other side.
“Ms. Troy informed us you’d be arriving,” the guard said when Sean showed him his pass. “Come on through.” The guard announced into his radio that Mia’s guest had arrived and then pulled apart the barricade.
“Who’s he?” Sean heard someone call out as he entered the restricted area, but he didn’t turn to look.
Almost as soon as he walked in, a fashionably dressed woman with short dark hair and an earpiece approached. “I’m Avery, Mia’s assistant,” the woman said as she extended her hand.
He remembered that Mia’s older sister worked as her personal assistant, but there was nothing visual to indicate the two were related. Where Mia was tall, her sister didn’t even reach his shoulder despite the heels she wore. Her eyes were more hazel than brown and her nose was a tad too large for her face.
“She’s in the middle of a scene right now. The last one of the day. You can wait anywhere in this area.” She nodded around them. “If you need anything, have someone get me,” she said before walking away, speaking into the microphone attached to the earpiece.
Sean watched Mia and a male actor speak on the steps. He stood just far enough away that he only caught every other word or so, but judging by her hand gestures and facial expression the scene depicted a heated exchange between the characters.
Mia wiped something from her cheek and then turned on her heel. Sadness filled her face as she started to walk away. At first the other actor remained still. Then just when Mia was about out of reach, he grabbed her arm and pulled her back to him.
“You know you want to stay,” the male actor said, pulling her against him. Lowering his head, the actor claimed her mouth.
Something primal rose up inside Sean at the sight. Grinding his teeth together, he struggled to stay back when everything inside him urged him forward. In his mind he envisioned pulling Mia away and then knocking her co-star onto the sidewalk. As the kiss continued, Mia wrapped her arms around her co-star’s neck as his hands traveled lower and cupped her ass. Ruled by emotion, Sean took a step forward.
“Cut,” a voice called out.
In front of the camera, Mia dropped her arms and pulled her mouth away. He co-star, though, kept his hands on her body and his eyes locked on her face as if the rest of the world didn’t exist.
“You two nailed that scene. Let’s call it a day,” a man announced, walking closer to the couple.
Mia took a step back and her co-star’s hands fell away. When she spotted Sean, her lips curved into a smile and she started toward him, leaving her co-star to stare after her.
When she reached Sean, she slide her arms around him and kissed him without even a hello first. The familiar scent of her favorite shampoo washed over him and rather than diminish the primal urge to throw her over his shoulder and lock her away, it grew stronger, and he tightened his hold around her waist.
“I’ve missed you,” Mia said as she pulled back.
Over her shoulder he caught her co-star watching them. “Really? Could’ve fooled me.” The words spilled out before he fully considered them.
Mia took a step back forcing him to let go. “What’s the matter?”
“What the hell was all that?” His temper and not logic now ruled his brain.
“Do you mean the kiss?” Mia asked. “It’s called acting, Sean. It’s what I do.”
“The hell it was. Maybe you were acting, but he wasn’t.”
Mia shook her head and smiled. “You’re jealous.”
Sean crossed his arms and glared at her. “I just didn’t come here to watch you get groped by some other guy.”
“There’s nothing between Mark and me. He’s engaged.” Mia’s breath blew across his ear as she leaned in toward him and wrapped his arms around her waist again. “Besides, you’re the one who will be in my bed tonight, not Mark.”
Her admission pushed away some of his anger. Regardless of how her co-star felt,  Mia stood in his arms right now. Next month another guy may be in the very same spot, but for now he had Mia all to himself.
She placed another kiss on his mouth. “Let me tell Avery we’re leaving, then we can go.”
He allowed her to lead him through the many people on the set.
“Did you park around here or at my hotel?” She navigated her way around several pieces of equipment.
“At your hotel.” He spotted her co-star coming toward them before Mia did. “Someone’s looking for you.”
The actor she’d kissed moments earlier stopped in front of them. “Is this the friend you were expecting?”
In one motion, Sean tossed his arm over Mia’s shoulders and pulled her close.
“Mark, I’d like you to meet Sean. He’s staying with me this weekend.”
Mark’s eyes were hard and full of dislike, as he looked at Sean and extended his hand. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“You, too.” Sean stuck out his hand and gripped Mark’s. The other man’s hands were as soft as Mia’s and he half-expected to look down and see nail polish on his fingernails.
“Have you seen my sister? We’re leaving, and I want to let her know.”
“I saw her with Brent Stockbridge,” Mark answered as his hand fell back against his side.
“Great. Thanks. See you later, Mark.”

#TeaserTuesday Snippet from The Billionaire Princess

It is Teaser Tuesday again. Here is a snippet from The Billionaire Princess book 3 in my series.  From now until the end of the month I am donating the proceeds from the sale of this book to Dog Orphans a no kill animal shelter.

Countless men had called her beautiful, yet coming from him it sounded different, more sincere perhaps. Running her tongue over her lips to moisten them, she met his gaze. Then they both took a step forward at the same instant. A tiny part of her brain went on autopilot when she felt her body come into contact with his. Slowly, he lowered his head toward hers and she found herself craving the taste of his lips more than she craved her next breath.

When his lips settled on hers he placed his hands on her shoulders, warmth seeping though her body. Their kiss remained gentle and sweet, but Sara allowed herself to learn the taste and texture of his lips, something she'd wanted to do since he climbed into the limo that afternoon.

The desire to increase the intensity of the kiss soon exploded. Sara wrapped her arms around Christopher's waist and anchored him against her as they continued to kiss. When the need for air became so great she feared his lungs would explode, Christopher pulled his mouth away from hers and began to leave a trail of kisses from the corner of her mouth across her jaw and down her neck.

In response Sara tilted her neck to the side to give him better access. Christopher continued his trail of kisses as his hands slid up and down the skin of her uncovered back causing her to tingle at his touch.

“Maybe we should go inside,” he whispered near her ear.
